Matihani

Matihani is a religious town in Mahottari District, well known for its ancient Hindu temples and pilgrimage sites. Matihani lies in the Mahottari plains a short distance from the district headquarters at Jaleshwar, on flat farmland between the Ratu and Bighi rivers. Its temple pond fills with bathers at Shivaratri and again at Chhath, when platforms are built at the water's edge for the offerings made to the setting and the rising sun. Maithili is the everyday language here.
