Growing industrial city of Bara District
Kalaiya is the headquarters of Bara District and one of the most rapidly industrializing cities in Nepal's Madhesh Province. The city is home to several industrial estates and is a significant economic center in the Terai region.Its strategic location along the East-West Highway and proximity to the Indian border make it an important logistics and manufacturing hub.
Kalaiya lies about 25km northwest of Birgunj, and the industrial corridor it belongs to runs north through Simara and Pathlaiya, served by Simara airport and the Tribhuvan Highway. The Gadhimai temple at Bariyarpur, whose festival is held once every five years, is in the same district.
