Rara Lake

Nepal's largest and most pristine alpine lake

Rara Lake is Nepal's largest lake, situated at an altitude of 2,990 metres in Rara National Park in Mugu District, one of the country's most remote protected areas. The lake's crystal-clear waters, surrounded by pine and juniper forests and the snow-capped peaks of the Kanjiroba Himal, create an environment of extraordinary natural serenity.Rara is home to an amazing diversity of wildlife including red pandas, snow leopards, Himalayan tahr, and over 200 bird species. The total absence of motorized vehicles in the national park and very few visitors give it an untouched, almost primeval character that is increasingly rare in the modern world.
