Upper Dolpa

The last Trans-Himalayan kingdom of Bon and Buddhism

Upper Dolpa is one of Nepal's most remote and restricted trekking regions, a high-altitude Trans-Himalayan plateau bordering Tibet that preserves an ancient Tibetan Bon Buddhist culture almost unchanged for centuries. The region requires a special restricted area permit and is one of the least visited areas in Nepal, ensuring an extraordinary sense of wilderness and cultural authenticity. The trek to Upper Dolpa passes through some of the world's most dramatic mountain landscapes, ancient monasteries including Shey Gompa, and remote villages where the traditional way of life continues as it has for generations.
