Lhakhang Karpo & Nagpo

Twin temples in the remote Haa valley, one of the last regions opened to tourism, said to be built the same day as Paro's Kyichu Lhakhang.

Tradition has it that a black and a white pigeon were released to choose the sites, and a temple was raised wherever each came down, which is how the pair got their names. Lhakhang Karpo sits below the three hills called Meri Puensum, held to be the seat of the valley's protective deities. Haa opened to visitors only in 2002 and still sees very few, so the temples are usually quiet. The valley is reached over Chele La from Paro, or by the road up from Chukha.
