Singapore Botanic Gardens

82-hectare garden founded in 1859, Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site

View all 2 photos

Singapore Botanic Gardens is an 82-hectare garden at 1 Cluny Road in the Tanglin planning area, established in 1859 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 4 July 2015, the first in Singapore. When it was inscribed at the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee in Bonn, it became the first tropical botanic garden on the list and the first in Asia. Inside are a tract of primary rainforest, the earliest ornamental designed lake in Singapore, and what the Gardens calls the region's most significant living collection of documented palms, orchids, cycads and gingers.

Entry is free for everyone, every day, from 5am to midnight. The National Orchid Garden inside is the one ticketed area and keeps shorter hours, 8.30am to 7pm with last entry at 6pm. Botanic Gardens MRT station on the Circle and Downtown lines serves the Bukit Timah Entrance at the northern end, and Napier MRT station on the Thomson-East Coast Line serves the Tanglin Entrance, less than ten minutes on foot from Orchard Road. Some attractions inside keep their own schedules: the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden closes on Mondays unless it is a public holiday, and the Healing Garden closes on Tuesdays, so check before planning a visit around them.
