White-water rafting at the Nepal-India confluence
Pancheshwar is a remote riverside location at the confluence of the Mahakali and Sarda rivers on the Nepal-India border in Baitadi District, known for its sacred Hindu significance and as one of Nepal's premier white-water rafting destinations. The Mahakali River at Pancheshwar produces powerful Grade IV–V rapids through dramatic Himalayan gorges.The proposed Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project, a binational hydropower dam, has been in planning for decades and if built would be one of South Asia's largest hydro projects. The sacred confluence is also an important pilgrimage site for Hindus from both Nepal and India.
