Talo Village

Talo sits on a ridge above the Punakha valley at around 2,800m, a village of terraced fields, traditional houses and flower gardens that is known among Bhutanese for being noticeably well kept. Above it stands Talo Sangngacholing monastery, which gives the village its standing.

Talo is the ancestral home of the Talo Gung family, from which the four queens of the Fourth King come. The neighbouring hilltop village of Nobgang, a little before Talo on the same ridge, shares that connection. Neither is on the main valley road, so reaching them means a short climb away from Punakha and a quieter afternoon than the dzong below.
