Punakha Suspension Bridge

One of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan

The Punakha suspension bridge crosses the Po Chhu just downstream of Punakha Dzong, linking the dzong side of the river to the villages of Shengana and Samdingkha. It is among the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan; published lengths vary, but at anything over 150 metres it takes a while to walk and it moves while you do.

Prayer flags are strung the whole way along it, and the view back upstream takes in the dzong at the confluence. It is a working crossing rather than an attraction, used by villagers and school children daily, and it is usually reached on a short walk from the dzong rather than driven to.
