Thimphu Weekend Market
Bhutan's capital comes to the riverside every weekend to trade and shop.
Every Friday to Sunday, farmers and traders from across the surrounding valleys bring their produce into Thimphu, Bhutan's capital, for the country's largest weekend market. Stalls along the Wang Chhu riverbank sell everything from fresh vegetables, chillies and cheese to incense, wooden crafts and traditional textiles.
It's one of the few places in Bhutan where daily local life, rather than a monument, is the main attraction — a good stop for a genuine sense of how Thimphu residents actually shop and gather, rather than another dzong or temple visit.
