Tachog Lhakhang Iron Bridge
A temple reached by an iron chain bridge in the tradition of Thangtong Gyalpo
Tachog Lhakhang stands on a rocky hill on the west bank of the Paro Chhu, just before it meets the Thimphu Chhu at Chhuzom. The temple and its first iron chain bridge are credited to Thangtong Gyalpo, the fifteenth century saint and engineer said to have built dozens of iron chain bridges across Bhutan and Tibet. The old bridge was washed away in 1969 and rebuilt in 2005 using the salvaged original chains. Hung with prayer flags, it sways gently as you cross.
