Kyichu Lhakhang

One of 108 temples built in a single night in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo to pin down a demoness across the Himalayas.

The older of the two temples here is among the oldest buildings standing in Bhutan, and the second was added in 1968 by Queen Mother Ashi Kesang Choden in the same style, so the pair share one courtyard. Two orange trees in the compound are said to bear fruit the year round. The floorboards in front of the inner shrine are worn into hollows by generations of prostrations. It is about twenty minutes by road north of Paro town, on the way to Drukgyel Dzong.
